Religious
Architecture
is a rewarding project type since it requires that the architect
provide not only good design to house the church's functional
needs, but it also requires that the architect meet the inspirational
goals the congregation has for the character of their buildings
and interior spaces. Langley & Associates
Architects, LLC understands these design criteria and
is skilled at working with committees to develop programs, schematic
designs, master plans, and full architectural design services.
Our firm understands
the role of the congregation in decision making, and participates
along with committee members in presentations to the congregation
and other bodies of church government to help convey design ideas
and gather user input. We understand the importance of being good
stewards with church resources, and are constantly striving for
economical as well as flexible designs that will meet needs today
and nurture growth into the future.

First
Baptist Church
Duncan, SC
The master
plan for First
Baptist Church
in Duncan, South Carolina involves the siting of a new family
life center on the existing church campus. The site is bounded
on all sides by public streets and nearly 40% of the site is occupied
by the church cemetery. The existing buildings along East Main
Street were to remain, thus the site for the family life center
became the open area west of these buildings. Due to the sloping
topography, the new family life center will be a two-story building
that is accessible from grade at both floor levels. Parking for
the new building fronts on Fowler Street.

WestSide
Baptist Church
Union, SC
Westside
Baptist Church
is a historic church within the Union Mill Village Community near
downtown Union, SC. Over the last few decades, as jobs in the
textile mill were reduced and the mill eventually closed, the
membership and attendance has declined to approximately 150 active
members. The resident moving into the area are mostly minorities
and have not become involved with the church.
The church
leadership made a decision recently to relocate the church congregation
to a new site on a major commercial highway with the hopes of
reviving the church membership.
Our work
consisted of an analysis of the past membership patterns and building
facilities to develop a building program. This then led to a decision
to develop a preliminary master plan for the new site. Also, through
the building program and budget discussions we determined the
first building on the site should be a multipurpose facility.
This facility would serve all the essential needs of the congregation
until a time in which additional growth would require a new educational
building and dedicated sanctuary space. At this time the multipurpose
building would be renovated for a family life center.
